WATER BAPTISM

AN OUTWARD DECLARATION OF AN INWARD CONFESSION

WHAT IS WATER BAPTISM?

Water Baptism is the next step in this exciting journey of accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.

Baptism is the full ‘immersion’ of your body into water. It symbolises Jesus Christ’s burial and resurrection. Baptism represents a believer’s new life in Christ. We bury ‘the old life’ and we rise to walk in a ‘new life’.

Our entrance into the water during baptism identifies us with Christ’s death on the cross, our being immersed into the water identifies with His burial, and our coming out of the water identifies us with His resurrection.

Jesus was baptised by being fully immersed into water. Here, water symbolises the grave and as you are immersed in the water, your old self is dead and buried like Christ. But just as Christ did not stay dead, but rather rose form the grave, as you rise from the water, this signifies that you are now alive in Christ – a new creation.

“We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” – Romans 6:4 NIV

So those who receieved His message were immersed, baptised and added to the church.

– ACTS 2:41 TLV

Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

– ACTS 2:38 NLT

Baptism is celebrating those who are ready to make an outward declaration of an inward confession.
